Well, you should count yourself lucky, I suppose. A comic almost didn't make it up today. Lately I've had no free time. Well no time to myself free time.

Saw "Fog of War" last night (2/18). It's basically a documentary, but it was really good. Robert McNamara, who was the Secretary of defense during the Vietnam war, acts as narrator for the entire thing. The phrase "from the horses mouth" comes to mind.

Other than that I've just had a lot of stuff going on lately. But not the "oh that's interesting" kind. Nope. More like the "you stood a bus stop for how long?" kind.

More on this story as it develops...?

My jaded cork whole knows no bounds. I’m not much for posting on game news of any variety because, to be honest, I don’t know shit about them. To me a computer is a mystical box comprised purely of magical components that show me pictures of naked ladies. That said, I am really bored. I don’t know if it’s Halo or the promise of Halo 2 that spoiled me, but I’m tired of playing Halo and would like to shot something else. But it’s not that easy. See I like to shoot other people, or at least their virtual proxy.

This boredom led me to Warhammer 40,000. Which got boring and led to Battlefleet Gothic. Which also got tiresome, though not quite boring. And led to me playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle. The bottom line is, that I have become bored with any game I have ever played one way or another. With the possible exception of Ultima Online, and then it wasn’t the supposed fun parts of the game I liked, but lumberjacking. I would lumberjack for 4 hours a day sell the wood and start over. And it never got old. I don’t know why, it was probably because I stopped playing due to a rising cost.

I spent most of last night, while I should have been sleeping, thinking about this topic. And have come to the conclusion that what I’m searching for in gaming is an opponent. Not a story or graphic. Not a mod-ed model or a custom built RPG character to but an actual opponent I can compete with and share a fair tide of victories and defeats.

That said, I would like to go to the recent passing of Valentine’s Day. Before everyone runs for cover I wrote and re-wrote posts on it, to make sure that I wasn’t talking about of loneliness or malice. But, a woman, more to the point a girlfriend is in a sense the ultimate opponent. She knows more and sees more of you than anyone else does or even wants to. She knows what you eat. What you like. How you like it. Your idiosyncratic grooming habits are even documented somewhere in her mind. Of course that’s assuming she’s a good girlfriend and not a walking set of holes and breasts like most, okay all, of my previous romances. The only difference is with a girlfriend I’m looking for what can only be described as the ultimate human ally (UHA).

Thinking about the idea of an UHA, it is a little much to ask of a person. To accept and understand why I need to go to a gaming store every Tuesday; why I spend at least 50% of my disposable income on media. And at the same time except that one person to be able to stand up to me, fight me, fight along side of me, deal with the amazing amount of shit that I can put out.

After all the only difference between your best friend and nemesis is the manner and condition under which you met. Met should have its value extended to the first three months of contact, some crazy people aren’t as courteous as I am and hide their psychotic nature.

In the end the two people who will smile the most about your memory and question the least are your best friend (or UHA) and your nemesis. Because to be either you must have a certain closeness, which is comforting because even if someone is trying to kill you for being who you are, at least they understand you.
